SPSFC3: Meet the Peripheral Prospectors Team!

Who We Are

Hi everyone! While the teams are sorting through entries and determining eligibility and such this week for the third annual SPSFC, I thought it would be nice to introduce our judging team.

We are Team #4, Peripheral Prospectors! The name is partially an inside joke related to Asimov’s infamous region in the Foundation novels, and partially to indicate that we are prospecting through some books to find gold! It’s a stretch, we know, haha!

A TEAM HUB page is being created to contain all of our updates and reading thoughts throughout the competition. For now, let’s just focus on who we are!

Members

Team Lead – Athena @ OneReadingNurse

A judge last year from team At Boundary’s Edge, Athena took over as a team lead this time around! I feel extremely lucky to have been able to recruit so many awesome readers from the SF&F community to join the team.

I am a notorious multi-genre reader who focuses on Fantasy & Science Fiction these days. I can also be found reading Mysteries, Thrillers, General Fiction, Historical Fiction, and any amount of American History. When not reading or working my fulltime hospital job, I can primarily be found outside working with my horses & other animals!

I can be found online, here, or on Twitter at https://twitter.com/onereadingnurse

Paul @ MetroCoward

Paul is back for another year hoping to find some new authors/reads as well as help promote Indie Sci Fi. I am looking for stories that catch my attention and stretch my imagination. Hard Sci Fi, Space Opera, Time Travel, Aliens, Black Holes and Starships I’m here for all of it and more but I’m a sucker for Dystopian Sci Fi so here’s hoping we unearth some gems this year. You can find me on Instagram @metrocoward or Twitter https://twitter.com/metrocoward . Looking forward to seeing what this particular trip around the galaxy brings for our team.

Nicole @ BookWyrmKnits

Nicole has been reading SFF for over 40 years, and blogging about it for nearly 20. While her favorite SFF sub-genres fluctuate year-to-year (and sometimes day-to-day), urban fantasy, superheroes, and snarky AI stories are almost always near the top of the list. She blogs about both her reading and crafting journeys, and loves when she finds characters who knit in unexpected places. (A favorite was one of Terry Pratchett’s vampires knitting in a coffin).

Chad @ HikingReader

My name is Chad but many know me by the Hiking Reader across social media & within the online book community. I’ve been a fan of both Science Fiction and Fantasy books since my school days. I didn’t spend a lot of time reading for pleasure until 2020 when I found the online book community which opened my eyes to so many possible great reads. I started reviewing books a year later and since then, I’ve worked on improving both my process and frequency of reviews. I currently share my reviews on my personal blog, Goodreads, Storylace and notices on Discord and Twitter when those are posted

Noor

Noor hates writing bios, but loves reading SFF, writing epic fantasy, and finding hidden self-pub gems. You can find her impersonating her character Iro IronGlove on twitter as @IIronGlove and talking about Fantasy on reddit as u/nStorytellerDragon. She’s excited to join team Peripheral Prospectors as a judge for SPSFC3 and discover more great Sci-Fi books!

Grant @SagaciousRex

Grant here! I’ve been reading Fantasy & Sci-Fi most of my life but have recently been making an effort to participate more in the community and try to add my perspective. I like time travel, thinking robots, introspective characters, and subverted expectations. I’m excited about being a part because I think this will give me more ways to see how things are changing: both in the genre at large and in myself as a reader. It’s simple, but I love doing things I enjoy with people I enjoy. I can’t wait to see what we find!

That’s us! Stay tuned for the TEAM HUB page and more updates coming next week!
